Follow-up: Cricket banned in Haryana villages

As a feedback to my earlier post on this issue, someone suggested that it will be good for cricket and the nation (particularly youth) if it were banned on television! Wanted to know whether others agree. I have created a poll on this, please care to take some time to go online to the blog site and submit your opinion.

Please forward this poll to others to generate some debate, if you want additional make additional points, just click comment on the blog.

Cricket banned in 28 Haryana villages

After Plachimada and Coke, here is another Panchayat, the even more powerful community Panchayat in Haryana taking a lead. Banning Cricket in 28 villages means saying 'no' to everything associated - endorsements, free bees, ...an entire culture.

DNA - India - Cricket banned in 28 Haryana villages - Daily News & Analysis: "The action of the khap panchayat is apparently not without reason.

'This game is making the young boys go astray. They are into betting and gambling. This also leads to fights. Its better that the youngsters stay away from this game and don't even watch it,' said panchayat head Tewa Singh.

Other village elders like Ram Singh agree that the sport was ruining the youth. 'They should be playing football, kabaddi, volleyball and other traditional games instead,' he added.

Pictures of players like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and MS Dhoni have also disappeared from walls of homes in these 28 villages."
